Main Match Category Definitions:

OWSA shooting categories are different from other cowboy shooting organizations. The time period we represent is from 1865 through 1895, therefore; any guns developed or improved after 1895 will be considered “modern” guns.

TRADITIONAL: Pre-1896 weapons or replicas (pistol, rifle and shotgun) smokeless or blackpowder

MODERN: Pistols with adjustable sights. Shotguns with ejectors (1897). Any rifle pre-1896

BLACKPOWDER: All guns (pistol, rifle, and scattergun) must shoot blackpowder (or pyrodex)

PLAINSMAN: Cap & ball handgun. Double barrel shotgun with outside hammers.  Pre-1874 rifle (repeater) blackpowder/pyrodex

DUELIST: Handgun is shot one handed.
